ABOUT THIS EVENT
Haydn’s influence on Mozart and the string quartet
Join the Australian Haydn Ensemble (AHE) for the first 2026 series of interactive lecture recitals, designed to deepen your connection with our mainstage touring programs.
Experience Haydn’s wit, innovation, and enduring legacy as we uncover the story of the Father of the String Quartet and Haydn’s influence on the style of Mozart - leading him to write his so called set of ‘Haydn Quartets’
Presented by a special guest presenter Genevieve Lang and with performances by the renowned AHE Quartet, this captivating event takes you on a journey through Haydn’s transformation of the string quartet—from its charming beginnings to the masterpieces that redefined chamber music.
Featuring live performances of excerpts from a range of Haydn and Mozart string quartet works, this hour-long program offers a rare opportunity to explore how Haydn’s compositional style evolved over time and played a crucial role in the development of Mozart’s own writing.
Join like-minded music lovers for a relaxed and informative event in the glorious surrounds of the Friends Room in the State Library of New South Wales.
