ABOUT THIS EVENT
Haydn’s Journey to London
Join the Australian Haydn Ensemble (AHE) for the third 2026 series of 18th Century Unpacked—our interactive lecture recitals designed to deepen your connection with our main stage touring programs.
Journey into the world of Haydn in the late 18th century as we explore what led to him being awarded an honorary doctorate from Oxford University and other influences on his London Symphonies.
Presented by special guest Genevieve Lang, with performances by the renowned AHE Quartet, this event traces Haydn’s journey to London and explores the changes from his relatively isolated and obscure world at the court in Esterházy to world fame and huge sold-out public concerts of his music in London.
Featuring performance excerpts of Haydn’s music, this hour-long program illuminates the life and work of an extraordinary composer whose influence remains potent to this day.
Join fellow music lovers for a relaxed and illuminating event in the glorious surrounds of the Friends Room at the State Library of New South Wales.
