AHE EXPLORE 18th CENTURY REFLECTIONS ON MORNING, NOON & NIGHT WITH AN ORCHESTRAL PROGRAM OF HAYDN, MOZART & J.C. BACH
The Australian Haydn Ensemble makes its USA debut with an orchestral program of early Haydn, J.C. Bach and Mozart, including Haydn’s beautiful Morning (Le Matin) Symphony No. 6 and Evening (Le Soir) Symphony No. 8, along with J.C. Bach’s dramatic Sturm und Drang Symphony Op. 6 No. 6 in G Minor that conjures the darkest part of the night balanced against the purity of Mozart’s A Major Symphony No. 29.
Haydn’s so-called Times of Day Symphonies, of which the Ensemble presents two (Morning and Evening), were some of the first works Haydn wrote when initially appointed to his position as court composer to the Esterhazy family in 1761 and include virtuosic solos for many of the players that were intended to win favour and show off the skills of the musicians. Haydn had between 14 and 17 musicians at his disposal at the time and the Australian Haydn Ensemble present them in a similar intimate orchestral fashion in this performance.
The program also features Mozart’s stunning late Symphony No. 29 in the vital key of A Major along with J.C. Bach’s dark and vibrant Op. 6 No. 6 Symphony characteristic of the night.
