Australian Haydn Ensemble
’Listening On Country’
Writing & Music Workshops
BROKEN HILL
Thursday 18 & Friday 19 September 2025, 3:30-5pm
Location:
Big Sky Stories, Broken Hill
Join us for this exciting creative writing and music project in Broken Hill! Thursday 18th and Friday 19th of September 2025, 3.30-5pm at Big Sky Stories.
Earlier this year, participating students worked with Indigenous author/illustrator, Dub Leffler from Westwords to create poetry inspired by Country and the local environment. In the September workshops, The Australian Haydn Ensemble (AHE) musicians continue this journey with students bringing their words to life through these creative music workshops.
Students will create improvised soundscapes and music inspired by their own poetry and the local environment — exploring themes such as wind, air, dust storms, and the Menindee Lakes.
Using small percussion instruments (provided) and found objects from the Broken Hill landscape, children will create original improvised pieces.
No prior musical knowledge is needed — just imagination and creativity! It is also not necessary to have attended the earlier writing workshops to participate.
Students are invited to share their poetry and the created soundscape music work at the AHE PUBLIC concert on Saturday the 20th of September, 7pm, at the Broken Hill Art Gallery (optional & flexible)
Workshops are FREE but registration is required as places are very limited.
