String Quartet No. 14 in G major (Spring) K.387
MOZART
Flute Quartet in D major K.285
The Ensemble presents an all-Mozart program featuring two of his best-loved chamber works – the ‘Spring’ quartet and the Flute Quartet in D major. Mozart’s string quartet is a titan of the genre and pays homage to his great mentor Haydn to whom he dedicated the work as part of a set of six quartets now known as ‘The Haydn Quartets’. Mozart’s Flute Quartet in D major is one of three quartets he composed as a commission for an amateur flautist and ‘gentleman of means’. Mozart’s stunning writing for the flute, particularly in the slow movement, showcases the wonderfully soft-edged colour of the classical period flute made from boxwood. Mozart finishes the work with a dazzlingly virtuosic and playful Rondo to set your heart racing.
